The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) is a confidential information clearinghouse created by Congress to improve health care quality, protect the public, and reduce fraud and abuse in the health care system.

The NPDB accepts reports on physicians, dentists, optometrists, osteopathic physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and certified nurse midwives, as well as on other health care practitioners.
